1907: first use combination of oxygen & alcohol vapour in some experiments on animals.
Overdose chloroform anaesthesia.
Mixture of oxygen & alcohol vapour.
Valuable remedy for cardiac failure.
Oxygen bubbled through absolute alcohol contained in an ordinary wash-bottle.
Stimulant effect on heart & circulation.
Administration pleasant & non-irritating.
Rapid feeble pulse slowed by some 10 or 20 beats per minute.
Marked improvement in force & volume.
Blood pressure raised from 10 to 30 mm mercury.
Oxygen should be bubbled through alcohol in a rapid stream.
Full effect obtained after five minutes.
Lasts for several minutes afterwards.
