In het wetenschappelijk vooraanstaande tijdschrift ‘British Journal of Surgery’ is afgelopen week een uitgebreide meta-analyse verschenen van alle beschikbare wetenschappelijke studies (Cochrane Reviews) met betrekking tot lokale en systemische wondzorg (1).
In deze analyse komen de onderzoekers onder andere tot de conclusie en aanbeveling om hyperbare zuurstoftherapie (HBO) in te zetten bij patiënten met een diabetisch voetulcus ter voorkoming van grote amputaties. Het behandelen van 4 patiënten met HBO voorkomt één grote amputatie.
Het gaat hier om de hoogste score van bewijsvoering (level 1).
In deze meta-analyse zijn maar liefst 149 Cochrane Reviews bestudeerd.
Hyperbare zuurstoftherapie wordt ingezet bij diabetische voetulcera die onvoldoende reageren op conventionele lokale wondzorg.
